What is pilsner?
Pilsner is a pale lager with a clean fermentation profile, dry finish and clearer hop presence than many mainstream lagers. It can be soft and rounded or sharply crisp.
The style takes its name from Plzeň. Pilsner Urquell states that its original golden lager has been brewed there since 1842. It became hugely influential and inspired pale lagers around the world.
What does pilsner taste like?
Expect pale malt flavours such as cracker, fresh bread or light honey, followed by herbal, floral, grassy or gently spicy hops. The finish is normally clean and dry.
