Food and beer

Make every bite better.

Choose a dish, understand what drives its flavour and find a beer that complements, contrasts or refreshes.

Three useful ideas

Pair without turning dinner into an exam.

  • Complement. Find shared flavours, such as roasted stout with grilled meat.
  • Contrast. Use an opposing flavour, such as tart beer with rich cheese.
  • Cut. Let bubbles, bitterness or acidity refresh the palate after fat and salt.

CAMRA's beer and food guide and the Brewers Association Beer and Food Program provide further pairing education.

Start with the beer you already enjoy.

A familiar style gives you a useful reference point, then you can notice what the food changes.
